Matthew R. Gayton’s Zednought (a studio of one) is an offering of ambient electronic and sampled soundscapes with a cinematic feel. Described as “moody and atmospheric” the attempt is always to maintain a balance between articulation and experimentation.
Mysterious Island - October 27, 2010 - Zednought’s first major release. Inspired by the ABC Television show “Lost” this album evokes some of the emotional impact that series had for him.
“For me Lost was an absolutely brilliant series. The combination of excellent writing and direction with well cast actors with good chemistry really brought it to life. I watched the series on disk from start to finish so I got to see it without interruption. It’s much more powerful when you don’t have to wait a long time to see the next episode. Fact is most of the time I watched two at a time because I had to see what happened next. It is one of my dearest hopes to someday contribute to something like that.”
“Michael Giacchino did the scoring for Lost. It fit so well that I think most people really don’t notice the music – it’s just a part of the whole experience. His ability to maneuver a theme to fit the needs of a scene is amazing. His ‘Win One for the Reaper’ is heart-wrenching even if all you do is just hear it. Michael and Hans Zimmer are very similar in that respect, being able to extract the maximal emotional impact with the least amount of apparent effort.”
